Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated worldwide on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It started in 1970 and now being observed in more than 192 countries each year.
Various government and non-government organizations all around the country have simultaneously celebrated Earth Day through the conduct of different environmental activities.
The Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and several of its Districts have partnered with the Coast Guard Stations within their areas of responsibility, together with the local government and environmental organizations to celebrate Earth Day in conjunction with their Monthly Coastal Cleanups.
In Subic, Zambales, the 111th Auxiliary Squadron of CGADNCR-CL joined the Earth Day Coastal Cleanup at the Lighthouse Beachfront which was organized by the Lighthouse Marina Resort. The event celebration was made possible through the coordination of Harbor Point, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Provincial Government of Zambales, City Government of Olongapo, DENR-Environmental Management Bureau, the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. During the cleanup, volunteers also learned about micro debris collection and importance to the study of marine pollution.
In Cavite, the 125th Squadron joined forces with CGS Cavite, PNP-Maritime Group, Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), SM Rosario, the Bureau of Fire Protection and local barangay officials and residents to clean the shorelines of Barangay Sapa 3 and Wawa 3 in Rosario, Cavite.
On the same day, the 129th Squadron also joined the coastal clean up activity of DENR and APO-CEA in Barangays Julugan 1-3 in Tanza, Cavite.
In related news, the Coast Guard Auxiliary District NCR-CL joined the Earth Day celebration through its monthly coastal cleanup activities at Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard, Manila on 21st of April 2015. Auxiliary Squadrons of 125th, 115th and 101st , students of AIMS and volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Pasay participated in the collection and recording of debris information in an ICC trash data form.
