The Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) hails its new National Director, RADM VALENTIN B PRIETO JR PCGA, in a turnover of leadership and management ceremony teeming with naval traditions and graced by the top leaders from the Philippine Coast Guard and its Auxiliary counterpart.
As the seventh National Director of the PCGA, RADM PRIETO JR will lead the sole uniformed-civilian organization in the country composed of 6,000 members from 12 Auxiliary Districts.
The PCGA is a service-oriented, uniformed-volunteer organization established to support the Coast Guard in the promotion of safety of life and property at sea, the protection of the marine environment and its resources, the conduct of maritime search and rescue, the maintenance of aids to navigation, recreational safety and such other activities that enhance maritime community relations which include civic action and youth development through the National Service Training Program (NSTP), and other related activities.
RADM PRIETO JR, in his assumption speech, declared a stronger and effective PCGA that upholds its good working relationship with the Philippine Coast Guard to pursue the common goal of promoting the safety of life and properties at sea.
He took the reins of leadership from immediate past National Director VADM JOSEPH N DY PCGA in the early evening of Saturday, July 25 at the Heritage Hotel Manila.
“VADM DY and I shared the same vision for the PCGA, thus, our direction will be the same. We will execute the same projects while adding a few more. We will pursue our common goals with the Coast Guard in an atmosphere of friendship, understanding, brotherhood, and mutual respect,” RADM PRIETO JR said.
The change of leadership and management of the PCGA came unexpected as VADM DY announced his resignation as National Director during the National Auxiliary Board meeting last Saturday. A Turn Over ceremonies ensued that same night.
He served as National Director for 14 months since he was elected last 23 May 2014.
“The relationship of the PCG and the PCGA has never been better and I am confident that RADM PRIETO JR will steer our organization to better heights. It is a rewarding thing to be of service to others and we in the PCGA are privileged to do so,” VADM DY said.
Giving emphasis to the steady cooperation between the PCG and PCGA, Coast Guard Commandant ADM RODOLFO D ISORENA PCG called on everyone to support the new Auxiliary leadership in its quest for excellence in the service of the Filipino people.
He also commended VADM DY for implementing ground-breaking projects for the PCGA during his term, to include the launching of the improvised floating device “Salbabote”,improving structures against storm surges, salvaging of mangroves and marine life through regular coastal clean ups, construction of enhanced reefs, and establishment of fish nurseries.
“Your stint as National Director may have been shorter but the PCG and the Filipino people will be forever grateful for your leadership that spawned meaningful legacies for the entire Coast Guard Auxiliary,” ADM ISORENA said.
The turnover ceremonies was graced by RADM WILLIAM M MELAD PCG, Coast Guard Deputy Commandant; RADM HILARION F DIMAGIBA JR PCGA, Deputy National Director for Administration; and CDR WILLIAM O ARQUERO PCG, CG-7. It was also well attended by the Directors from the 12 Auxiliary Districts, Central Staff and Squadron Directors of CGADNCR-CL, and Station Commanders of CGDNCR-CL.
